I don't want to be a MILF...

Okay, so here is my randomness from last Thursday.  Driving to work that morning I had the random thought that "I don't want to be a MILF."  If you don't know what that is, don't worry about it, it's really not that important, the gist is a "hot mom."
First of all let's get things straight, I would not currently consider myself anything NEAR a MILF.  I got married, got comfortable, now I have a kid (and one more on the way) and I do not have the High School teenage body that once was.  I don't know that I would want that body back either.  Don't get me wrong, after the next kid comes, the weight needs to go!  I am uncomfortable in the "fat suit" I have created for myself over the last long years.  I have enjoyed every cookie, every cupcake, every slice of pizza along the way and I am good with that.  I will never be the person that counts calories and works out more than I eat, that's not me and I like food.  I have come to realize over the last couple years that I like GOOD food though.  I like REAL food.  So, our household will be making a few changes away from the freezer section and (hopefully) we will take better advantage of what farmland still surrounds our area!
But I digress...  I still don't want to be a MILF.  I don't want to be the mom the other kids "like."  I want to be the one they respect.  Or simply fear.  Fear can be good (evil smile)...
I don't want to know who little Suzie is dating.  I don't need to know that Joey is the cutest boy in school.  I want to know where my kid is and who she is with.  AT ALL TIMES.  I have always said that when it comes to parenting my kids will "fear and respect me...  In that order."  Sure, I generally say that with a smile, but no matter how my little girls smile melts my heart, it will never stop me from knowing everything I can about my kid.  I will be the parent that monitors the computer and internet.  I will know what my kids watch on t.v.  I will know what books they are reading, how they are doing in school and what they do when they are not in school.  My kids won't have unlimited talk and/or text.  They will be lucky if they get an emergency cell phone.  I may not "hot sauce" my kid to discipline them but I strongly believe in time-outs, spanking and on occasion a pinch.  You don't like the way I discipline?  Get over it.  I don't come to your house and tell you how to do things.  People now are so worried about how to keep their kids safe but don't teach their children manners or respect.  Either way, I want to be the mom that kids know means business.  I want them to know I don't put up with nonsense and I have little patience when it comes to disrespect.
Will I bake cookies?  Sure!  Will the door be open when kids need someone, a grown-up, to be there for them?  Absolutely!  Kids will make plenty of friends in their lifetime, they will learn many lessons from other children's parents and from their own, but I will not be their "friend" and I certainly don't need kids getting the wrong idea about a parent, especially a mom, just because of the way I may look.

Outside my window...

Dark...  It's night time again!  Just "put" the baby to bed.  I said "Sam, it's time for bed!"  And she ran right down the hall straight to her room, put her in her crib, she pointed me to the door, that was it!

I am thankful...

For generous friends.  We are blessed to have a friend that not only gets tickets to sporting events, he always offers them out!  Since it was Gregg's birthday yesterday, and I knew I couldn't do much, it was a great treat for him not only get out with the guys, but to see his team play win!

I am thinking about...
Nothing.  Well, not now of course.  Now I'm thinking of all the things I needed to get done this weekend that are not done.  But a minute ago, total black-out in the brain!

Learning all the time...
So, where was my dear cousin Tiff when I was looking for points of view about Your Baby Can Read!?!?  (giggle)
We had done (a little) research when the program was lent to us and it seemed like it sounded like a good idea.  Now, my dear school-teacher cousin is encouraging me to quit it...  BUT SHE LIKES THEM...  (smiling and whining)
I don't know if we will drop them cold-turkey, Sam really likes the songs on the movies, and they keep her entertained for a little while at a time.  She also recognizes some of the words and she knows how to put books the "right" way.  I do agree, nothing comes close to the learning a child gets by playing with mom and dad!

From the kitchen...
We've had less coming from the kitchen lately than "normal."  That will be changing soon!  Not sure if I will get gestational diabetes again with this pregnancy so we are planning to head this one off at the pass.  Changing our "diet" to more of what I ate with my first pregnancy and making sure to get our walks in.

I am creating...
Well, I did "clean" my sewing room a bit, last weekend.  I had every intention of getting in my sewing room this last weekend and never seemed to get the chance.  I have some patches I need to make for a fundraiser bike ride for my dad, will post pictures when I've got them done.

I am working on...
Those stinking patches...  And getting more familiar with Etsy.  Who would have thought trying to sell things online would become more about socializing!?!

I am going...
Dunno...  I don't think I'm going anywhere anytime soon...  We do get to go to Claimjumpers for dinner one night this week, for Gregg's belated birthday dinner!  Yummy, yummy!!!

I am hoping...
Always hopeful!  I don't know that I am hoping for much at the moment.  Simple things?  That I get the patches done lickety-split and that I don't find any dead mice roasting in my office on Monday!  Gross, I know, but last Monday was not fun find a dead mouse that had not only been roasting, it kind of...  Well, let's just say it was not nice...

I am reading...
A lot of emails.  No, really, A LOT of emails!  I have too many accounts!  Two for personal, one for baby ads, three for work, one for Stuff N Junk and one that I need to delete from my Pampered Chef days.  I never have enough time to sit and read them, so I go through daily and delete the "junk" thinking I will have time later to read the emails.  This weekend, during nap time, I found some moments to catch up.  I'm no where near close to done!

I am praying...
Always for friends and family.  Just for the simple things.  Thankful for what we have.  Wishing all the best for those dealing with natural disasters right now and hoping they all can get back to "normal" with little interruption.

I am hearing...
Billy Madison.  This movie CRACKS.  ME.  UP!  I know some people don't love (or even like) Adam Sandler, just don't talk to me about it...  I think he is quite funny and some of these movies I could watch over and over without ever getting bored!

Around the house...
Not enough cleaning, too much mess.  Is one-and-a-half too early to start teaching how to pick things up?  Between the cat hair and the kids toys, either the pets or the kid are going to have to start helping!!!

One of my favorite things...
Last Holiday!!!  Okay, so I have been IN LOVE with LL Cool J since the 80's, not gonna lie about that!  And Queen Latifah, maybe I didn't listen to every song she ever came out with, but by the early 90's she was one of my favorite rappers, male or female!  To have them both in one movie!!!  Ahhhhh....

A few plans for the rest of the week...
Patches...  Reading, emails and Etsy stuff...  Hanging out with the kid...  Laundry...  That kind of thing!

Random thought...
So many thoughts, so little time...  I've been posting my most recent randomness more often lately, I think that's all the randomness I've got for today.

Here are picture thoughts I am sharing with you....

Survival of the fittest or survival of the biggest?

Ok, so I wrote this a week or more ago and then just never posted it...

So, today's random thought...  "I killed a spider today."
You wouldn't think this would start a whole random thought process, but with me...  Anything's possible!
At work today I was walking around the "warehouse" and I saw a black spider, belly up, black widow.  I don't know if all black widow's are female and I certain wasn't about to find out if it was a boy or a girl, but I referred to "it" as "her."  Talking to my brother on the phone I asked if he thought I should kill it or just let it on it's merry way?  He advised killing it might be the best idea since I bring my daughter into the shop and it isn't far from my office to the "warehouse."  BLECH!  I dislike killing spiders.  You just never know what they will do!  Curl into a ball and "roll" off somewhere...  Scurry to another, more difficult-to-kill location...  BLECH!!!  So, I grab the spray bottle of window cleaner and standing a few feet away (Bro is telling me over the phone that widows are a bit unpredictable, and slightly aggressive and may try to jump at me) I spray the be-Jesus out of that thing!  Let me tell you that spidey pitched a bit of a fit!  Up and down on it's web, onto the floor, came in my direction a bit and then opted for the nearest box.  It DID NOT try to scurry under the box however, she vigorously started climbing to the top of the box!  Now, I had put a good dozen sprays on this bitty girl, I finally took off my shoe and ended her (our) misery.  Of course, you NEVER only shoot a thing once if you want to make sure it's dead, so although she was pretty squished after the first smash-a-roo, I went ahead and slammed the shoe against the floor to make sure she was "good" and dead.  Of course, then I had to wipe the dead carcass and yucky spider goo onto a nearby wooden pallet...
Then comes the thoughts...  Poor spider, never really did anything to me, I attacked her out of fear that she may someday come after my kid!  Who knows how the widow got into the shop...  But we all know hitchhiking can getcha killed...  (giggle)
That's when I started thinking about survival of the fittest...  Would I say that I am "fitter" than that spider?  No.  Especially not right now!  So, is it really survival of the "fittest" or simply of the "biggest"?  I mean, come on!  I outweigh that little spider by...  Well, let's just all admit that we outweigh spiders by however much it is we weigh and leave it at that...  And then I started thinking about how it is when you are little.  In school, with grown-ups, it's all about intimidation by those that are physically larger than we are!  How often do we see a puny bully?  So is that it then?  Am I simply a spider bully?  It does all revert back to that "She wouldn't hurt a fly" saying.  I sure the hell WOULD hurt a fly!  In fact, there is a fly in my house the last few nights that I would love to desecrate!!!  So, what makes us "better" than our insect and arachnid (what's the word I'm looking for?) enemies?  Of course, not everyone finds the multiple limbed creatures enemies, but let's remember that they outnumber us in the (what?) billions?  Again, BLECH!
No matter how you squish 'em, I don't prefer to be the one to kill the bugs and spiders.  It makes me kinda sad when I come into work and find a little baby mouse dead in the trap.  At the end of the day though, if any of those nasty little critters bites, stings, even TOUCHES my kid...  Well, it makes me feel a little less sad, that's for sure!

Sesame Street

So I was driving into work the other day and I hear the radio DJ discussing a petition about Bert and Ernie getting married on Sesame Street...
First off, my disclaimer...  I don't not expect that by you reading this that you should agree with me or change your thinking.  I do ask that you have an open mind and remember my sense of humor regarding life in general.  Any person that leaves a hateful, unintelligent or intolerant comment will have their comment deleted AND if you know me and I see you in person, I will give you an earful about proper online etiquette.
Alright now...  This DJ did explain that Sesame Street has introduced puppets of "color and specific nationality" as well as an HIV positive puppet, so the petition was started to get Bert and Ernie hitched.
First of all, I am a supporter of marriage in general.  Whether you are heterosexual or homosexual I just don't care.  If you grab my ass I'm gonna swing at you whether you are male or female, get me?  In all seriousness though, I am heterosexual, it was the way I was born, I do not plan to tell people (or to raise my children to that they can tell people) who the other person is, what they should believe in or what they should be.  I have found myself in a few discussions (yes, let's call them "discussions") regarding homosexuality and marriage.  I tend to be on the defending side that if they are human, and of legal age, it's really not my business and I would never call what another person believes "right or wrong" unless it would harm another person.  I could go off topic here and talk about things like murderers, abortion and politicians but I simply want to stick with Bert and Ernie right now...
The whole thing got me thinking...  Are we telling our kids that two people, whether same sex or not, can't live together as friends without being romantically involved?  I've known "children" that have lived with their parents for thirty years, I wouldn't encourage THEM to get married...  And when did Sesame Street get in the business of teaching children about sex?  Oh, wait!  They have an HIV positive puppet!!!  How did said puppet acquire that disease?  Promiscuous puppet sex?  Unsafe drug use?  Or did this puppet have a stuffing transfusion that did not get properly tested?  Sorry, trying not to make it "funny" but you have to admit that while trying to teach children tolerance we have to remember that children are constantly asking "Why?"
They have marriage on Sesame Street.  Children have come to live there by means of these human marriages.  Do we explain those?  Is puppet marriage even legal?
Then I started thinking about conversations I've had "defending" gay marriage...  I have gay friends.  I have ALWAYS had gay friends.  I've had crushes on boys that I knew could be gay.  I had a crush on a girl once thinking she was a boy!  I've been to Disneyland on Gay Days and defended "appropriate" displays of affection.  To be honest, I don't want to see ANYONE groping in public, but I can't help but smile when I see two people that truly like each other holding hands or sharing a (semi)private moment.  I have defended the fact that someday when my child is old enough to ask questions about why two people are kissing or holding hands that I will tell them "Because they love each other."  And I will know that however my daughter turns out she will know how to be tolerant and patient and respectful.
So, why the post?  Well, I think that the whole Bert and Ernie should get married thing is just weird...  First of all, THEY ARE PUPPETS!!!  Secondly, why do they NEED to be gay?  The DJ commented how the two are always happiest together...  Well, there are people that I am truly happy to be around, I do not plan to marry any of them.  What are we teaching children if this does come to pass?  Why can't Bert and Ernie simply be the best of friends that just like being together without "sex" being a part of it?  I realize that sex is NOT the only part of being gay...  But they have lived together this long and it has never been shown that they are involved in any way than being best friends...  Or did I just answer my own questions?

Back in the Saddle...

Ok, so I would LOVE to tell you all that there is some very important reason that I have been MIA...  Truth is, I've just been tired and not super motivated...  What in the world have I been doing these last two months?  Well...
I checked my last post from 6/5 and have been thinking about what I have done.
I did make a blanket and attend a baby shower.  There was a second baby shower I was planning to attend but things around the house got a little jumbled and I had to send word that I would not be able to make it.  Very disappointed about that one but looking forward to meeting little baby Hank!
In July I turned (gasp) 34 and we had fondue at home.  When we were little, my brother and I tended to have big birthday celebrations together since our birthdays are about two weeks apart, but we always got to pick what we wanted for dinner ON our birthday!  I remember choosing fondue on more than one occasion...  Mom and I made cheese fondue with sour dough bread, chicken and beef fondue for the chicken and steak, and a yummy chocolate fondue with local farm fresh strawberries, pound cake, chocolate birthday cake and bananas!  Later we decided that any future fondue nights we will skip directly to the chocolate!
The first weekend in August we were able to enjoy the wedding of my cousin Caleb and his beautiful wife Megan.  Yes, I helped with this wedding too, but not as much as I wish I could have done!  I did some embroidery for the bridesmaids gifts, steamed the gowns for the wedding, and made the wedding cake.  Yup, I made a wedding cake!  My first!!!  Well, my first from start to finish AND with fondant!  And all I could think about was my own wedding cake, made by my Nana.  She would have gushed about how nice my cake looked, even though I thought it was just a bit crooked in places, and at the last minute noticed the top tier wasn't "quite" centered.  I was not as close to my Nana as some of my cousins, but I did wish she could have been there, helping with the cake, boasting about her grand kids.  I wish any of my grandparents could have been there.  I know they were there in spirit though, and sometimes that just has to be good enough.
Hmmm, what else have I been doing...  Stuff...  Just stuff in general, no junk though...  Oh!  And I've been growing a baby...  Yup, that's right, a little unexpected, but Samie will be a big sister around the middle of January next year.  I don't get "traditional" pregnancy pains.  No morning sickness, just a bit more tired than usual.  Oh, and I have anger issues.  Well, I have anger issues no matter what, but they seem to rise to a whole new level during pregnancy.
All that and trying to keep up with Sam.  She's quite the adventurer, running around on her tiptoes, already twirling around the living room, singing "Caliou" and "reading" her books.  Of course, she really can't read, but she does like to look at the pictures and points at the words.  Plus, she knows to hold the book right side up!

Sorry, no photos of the wedding cake...  Somehow I missed that part, but here are some other photos:

Happy Groom and Bride!
