Outside my window...
I am thankful...
What am I learning? Hmmm, well, I thought I was better at the whole "measure twice, cut once thing" but apparently I'm not... I am in the process of making a completely custom diaper bag (for me of course) and I cut the base the wrong size! Thankfully I haven't cut the lining fabrics yet, so with some quick thinking I have come up with a plan to save the day! Funny thing though, when I was measuring how much fabric I have it was a random amount just over a yard but not an amount I would normally purchase. Generally I buy in half-yards and this is coming up short for that amount. I guess I will just have to watch closer when people are measuring and cutting my fabric. And that's another lesson learned!
Oh boy has this been a week from the kitchen! We made chocolate chip pancakes, no-bake cookies, garlic-cheddar biscuits and home made re-fried beans! We have been getting tons of dried beans lately and I really wanted a Mexican food night. When I read my cookbook I wasn't sure the beans would turn out right (after looking up a recipe online) but the one I used was super yummy, they turned out perfect and I used my slow-cooker! That baby is getting quite the workout recently... I'll try to post the recipe I used, it was very yummy and no lard!
That pesky diaper bag! You see, we got a new stroller with the addition to our family, a double, but the under seat storage is incredibly limited and our current diaper bag is too big for storing and the straps are too small to hang from the handles. My previous Disney bags just don't have enough pockets to keep us organized with the two girlies, so I am creating a Tinkerbell inspired bag with enough pockets to keep Daddy happy, straps to fit the stroller and just enough cuteness to be Stuff N Junk!
Potty training, volume control and limiting the pacifier. Yes, I know, quite the tasks but they really do need to be worked on.
To have the dishes done, the kitchen cleaned and the laundry put away before bed tonight! Then there will be more time to get in that sewing room for some organization and sewing!!! Projects on the board? Diaper bag for me and large zipper bag for my giveaway! Hopefully followed by more bags and blankets for my Etsy store.
To keep on task. We've been doing well to get the house back in order after so many weeks of on-again-off-again craziness around here! I'm not a super clean freak but I do like things picked up and it does help my allergies when we keep the dust at bay... Other hopes? That one of these storms the weather man keeps promising will actually appear! I know everyone else might be ready for Spring or even Summer but we've had a rather dry winter here in central California and I love me some rain!
Blogs and Facebook, that's about it. Did I say I was going to get Hunger Games on my NOOK? Well, I'm still working on that. I just don't see a light at the end of that tunnel right now where I would have time to sit down and read. But maybe next month.
For a safe flight home for my sister-in-law and nephew and that while they wait for the next time they are with my brother that they get lots of phone calls and letters. And for my brother that his next training goes well.
Big Sister playing in the other room. She has quite the imagination right now and is all consumed with Disney Princesses. Yes, I am absolutely eating it up! All while encouraging it as much as possible!
We finally busted out the pack-and-play for Baby Sister. She is up much more during the day now and only wants to be in her bouncy seat for just so long. She will be rolling over any second now and I can tell crawling won't be too far behind!
One of my favorite things...
Cleaning, sewing, playing, working. What else is there?
Why do we park on driveways and drive on parkways?

3/21/2012 Wordless Wednesday
March 21st is a hard day for me. Twelve years ago I lost one of the best friends and most incredible person I could ever be blessed to know. My Grandpa Bill...
An amazing thing is happening today though, that has made my day quite a bit brighter. My sister-in-law and nephew were able to travel across the country to be at my brothers graduation from Basic Training.
Hero's come in many shapes and sizes. I am proud to say that both of these men are two of my favorite hero's. I will never be able to express how much I have loved them both and how proud I am of all they are and were.

Outside my window...
I am thankful...
As always, learning to balance what I want to get done and what I need to get done. Knowing deep down that what needs to get done will and what I want to get done may just take some extra time.
Yesterday for breakfast I made chocolate chip pancakes with green eggs and ham and for dinner corned beef and cabbage, in honor of St. Patrick's Day! I added some carrots and red potatoes and we had my in-laws over for a nice at-home kind of celebration. My mom brought some Irish Soda bread that was incredibly yummy and finished off the meal with a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting! I don't know how "Irish" the cake was, but I can tell you it was WONDERFUL!!! Today I made open-faced tuna melts and cut up apples and oranges for lunch. And pretty soon I will be headed back to the kitchen to make up some no-bake cookies for my amazing baby brother!
Lately? Food! But I am also in the process of making my first ever custom-designed diaper bag! Yes, I have made diaper bags. And I have made custom-altered diaper bags using Simplicity patterns, but I have never made a custom bag from start to finish with no pattern. I am very excited and totally freaked out all at the same time! I will try to post status over at Stuff N Junk by Heidi but you all know me, if I don't forget to take pictures I will probably forget to post them!
Little things... I still haven't finished that Belle costume and I just bought the fabric to make a Cinderella costume! I want to re-do Big Sister's room, so I keep stopping to jot down notes. I found some flannel-backed-satin that I am itching to make jammies for Big Sister out of and some fleece and minky fabric that looks like it wants to be a snugly blankie!!! All that and we are looking to organize and pack-up some things around the house!
No where fast... Sadly there are no travel plans in our near future. But we can still dream!
That Baby Sister will keep up with the schedule we have just gotten down. Sleeping more at night and less during the day is the goal!
Patterns, notes, blogs... Not much else. I have heard some great things about the book Hunger Games, so I am planning on getting that for my NOOK soon and trying to sneak in a few minutes here and there to read!
For my brother and his spider bite. For my nephew and his recent troublesome ear. For my sister-in-law and her family, that they are able to catch a break in all the things that are going on right now.
Something on the t.v. about sharks. I am deathly afraid of sharks... You know the nightmares kids have about boogie-men under the bed? Yeah, well, I have always had nightmares that my bed is really out in the middle of the ocean and there are sharks under there... Very hungry sharks. The really sad thing is, no matter how much they freak me out, you just can't stop either of us (hubby or me) from watching all the shows about them!
We got things nice and cleaned for our company yesterday. Laundry almost got caught up last week! Same-old, same-old! I wish we had some big project going on! We do have plans to correct the duct work under the house, repair some of the bathroom plumbing and to get the hot tub fixed... Bet you're jealous now huh?
One of my favorite things...
Two appointments on Monday, long appointment on Tuesday, work and chores the rest of the week. Maybe I can sneak in some sewing?
I think I may have emptied my brain of all real thoughts. Since my mom has been around lately we have been watching General Hospital. I go back and forth on it. I will go a week or two without watching and then when something "big" happens I'll check in. This week (I think it has been a couple weeks now) Robin died. Can you believe I am actually getting emotional about this? But I have been watching GH since I was a little kid, and Robin is just about my age and has been on the show almost since I started watching! While I am certainly happy for the actress that plays Robin to be moving on to a new career, I am so heartbroken that they have killed off her character. And watching the flash-backs, it's like saying good-bye to an old friend!

Daybook 3/11/2012
Outside my window...
I am thankful...
This week it's all about how to compromise. And how to listen. You'd think we would know the "how-to's" by now.
Well, for our small family get-together I made pulled pork, macaroni and cheese (not from a box!) Cesar salad, strawberry ice cream (with my ice cream maker) and I even made a chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting (both from scratch)! Too bad the cake ended up on the floor before anyone got here. Thankfully we live a block away from grocery store and were able to pick up a replacement.
I'm still creating that Belle costume for Big Sister. You'd think I'd know better than to pick the costume with the most gathers! It's taking a bit longer than I intended, especially since I decided to alter the pattern to enclose the seams. Why don't they think of that when they are creating the pattern? Why would I want itchy unfinished seams against my kids skin?
Patience and time management. If you would have told me I would need to work on patience ever, I would have told you I've got plenty! Little did I know that while I can be patient with some things, I have very little for others. But we're getting there!
To take Big Sister out for her actual birthday tomorrow! We may have only done a small family party this weekend but it's important for me to celebrate her actual birthday in a little way. We're going to dinner (just us four) and then gonna take her out to get a little present, maybe a Disney Princess doll!
To get a letter off to my brother before the middle of the week and then to make him some special cookies for his graduation since I can't be there.
Patterns and blogs. Blogs and patterns. Oh, and cookbooks for the last few days. It's about all my brain can handle at the moment.
Just for things in general. But especially for a safe and happy trip for my nephew and sister-in-law when they get to visit my brother next week.
Baby sister getting geared up for her late-night feeding and hubby watching shows from the DVR.
We got a lot of cleaning done last week and still have quite a bit to do from the weekend. My sewing room needs a lot of attention and I'm hoping this week I will get to tackle that!
One of my favorite things...
Birthday dinner for Big Sister followed by her two-year check up the next day! Poor kid, we get a Happy Birthday and then shots!
Maybe not so random but I have been doing a lot of thinking about my brother. I just miss him. There is a Facebook group that posts pictures of his training each week. Every week I scour the pages and pictures looking for a glimpse of my brother. Even if I see someone that might be him it gives me hope and breaks my heart at the same time! I see what he is doing each week and I couldn't be more proud of what he is doing. I hope someday we will be able to live near each other again but at least to be able to talk to him once a week would be nice or to chat via email.

Daybook 3/04/2012
Outside my window...
I am thankful...
Well, we've all ready covered the terrible twos... What else am I learning? Lot's of stuff about blogs. Trying really hard to get this blog thing going and running smoothly.
Working on creating a weekly/monthly menu plan. Otherwise, not much going on here. Lot's of leftovers to clear out the fridge. I am very excited about making a cake (from scratch) and homemade strawberry ice cream for the Birthday girl!
Well, I have a list of things I should be creating! That counts, right? In all honesty I have been stalling and then blaming it all on being busy with the Sisters. I know, I know, I'm working on it!
Creating... Right? Tee-hee... No, seriously! I am working on that menu, working on dealing with the terrible twos, working on time management... Then I can start working on creating!
To be having a very small get-together to celebrate Big Sister's Birthday! I'm going to cook up something yummy for the family. I'm going to enjoy every moment!
That I finish Big Sister's present and Birthday dress! The present is a costume (I have a pattern) but the Birthday dress is going to be an original, custom dress by ME! I'm very nervous not only because I have to get it done this week but also because I have never made something without a pattern before. I've been reading a bunch of blogs though that give fabulous tutorials so I'm hoping with all my note taking that it turns out super-duper! Once it's done I promise to post pictures and give links for the sites that not only inspired me but gave me the step-by-steps to get it all done!
Blogs and patterns, patterns and blogs. Every. Chance. I. Get! Once Little Sister is on a better schedule I might get to start reading books again. I did get a recommendation from a customer at work a few weeks ago, Nothing like It in the World: The Men Who Built the Transcontinental Railroad 1863-1869. We were talking about trains and history, and how we appreciate history more as we get older. He said this was a really good book about both and I fully intend to check it out when I get a minute to breath!
I am praying...
Baby Sister trying to suck her thumb! As I sit here typing frantically I know I am pushing my luck each second that goes by as we get closer to feeding time!
Same old stuff! Laundry, dishes, cleaning house. I'm glad we decided to keep this years party small, it makes much less work and preparation with the house!
One of my favorite things...
Sewing, cleaning, getting ready for Big Sister's party. She doesn't really get it yet, less so than Christmas... Probably because for Christmas we decorate the house a month before! We keep telling her that she will get cake and presents but I think she doubts us since she hasn't seen anything yet!
Alright, not so random but I am hating my cutting table right now! I really need to remember to post a review about it, not that it's new or anything but the stupid wheels are falling off! It's a great table, well, it was a great table! It's made to "fold" down so that storing is easier. That part has always been fine. The problem is the fold-down sides. They have a "swinging" leg that has a caster wheel to that the leg swings to and away from the table. Well, one wheel fell off within a year of buying the table. I thought the hubby did it but after thinking about it I may have leaned on the table a bit too hard. Today, I barely leaned on the table and the other swinging side wheel broke off! Normally I would just brush it off and "fix" it. Problem is, it can't be fixed! We've tried gluing the wheel but it basically is mounted to a piece of plastic that was somehow adhered to the metal leg. Nothing sticks to the stupid stuff though! Not sure what we're going to do with it now... Either take off all the other wheels so that it sits flat on the ground or take the table apart and rebuild the legs so they won't break anymore...

3/1/2012
So, in an effort to get some control back I have got myself a plan! I will continue to (or should I say start up again) my Wordless Wednesday and Sunday Daybook posts. I am also going to start doing a first and last day of the month post!
Today being the first, I'll let you know these posts may be short... Basically it's to get me on here for just a few minutes to set some monthly goals for myself. A random thought, a task, a chore. Something like that... I will be doing a similar, but not same, post over at Stuff N Junk by Heidi, so if you like my sewing stuff, make sure you check that out as well! Post made on the same day will not be the same for both pages, so be sure to flip back and forth every once-in-a-while to make sure you aren't missing some of the excitement!
This months goal? I'm keeping it simple. Mostly so that I can get back in the rhythm of it all but also because we have a Birthday this month and I will be really focusing on getting things done for our small family gathering. Staying in the same theme as Christmas, I have been planning to make gifts for the special Birthday girl. Want to know what I'm working on? Head on over to Stuff N Junk by Heidi! Since it's sewing, I'm going to try to keep it on that blog so I don't bore people with the same thing twice!
My end of the month post will be a review in pictures. This will be easier and more difficult for me all at the same time! I really used to love taking pictures... At some point it really started becoming a chore. We have a "decent" camera, nothing super special or expensive, but I rarely use it! My personal goal for the month is to snap a few more pictures a week than I currently do which should be easy since I pretty much don't ever take pictures! With a little extra effort I will take more pictures each month to show my kids we really did fun things when they were little!
Alright! That's it! You know my evil plan! Gotta run though, I still have another blog post to type up tonight!
